Ranking criteria
How we rank
In the fit check, three criteria decide the order, always in this sequence. A later criterion only counts if the earlier ones are equal.

Does it fit you technically?
We check your valve and the included adapters, your FRITZ!Box, your smart home system or Home Assistant and any Thread border routers you own. Systems that work directly come before systems that need extra devices. Systems that do not fit at all appear under “Does not fit because …”.

What does it cost in total?
We count the total price for your home: thermostats times the number of radiators, plus hub and required adapters. We use the lowest estimated price. If a price is missing, it says “price to follow”, it is left out of the sum and the total is marked “from”.

Are there running costs?
Systems whose full automation needs a subscription rank lower when everything else is equal. If you choose “I don’t want a subscription”, they also lose points in the technical rating.
Hardware in the homelab section
For each use case, the hardware that best meets the official requirements of the software comes first, for example memory, graphics for video or space for hard drives. The requirements and their sources are listed with each piece of software.
What has no influence
Commission. hubklar earns from purchases through shop links, but the commission rate plays no role in selection or order.
Which shops we show
hubklar only lists shops with an affiliate programme. Other retailers may offer the same product for less.
Where the data comes from
Technical details come from manufacturers and the official documentation of the software, estimated prices from retailer pages. Data as of 11 Oct 2026. Details change with updates, shop prices at any time. hubklar compared the devices but did not test them.
